Umeboshi & Watermelon Margarita

What happens when you put the salt in the margarita first? What happens when you replace the salt source with umeboshi? Insanely quaffable.

I tried a few other variations of this, including with Ancho Reyes and Luxardo Maraschino for the sweet stuff.. Both were decent additions , but I felt it was best with orange liqueur. Harlequin is 80 proof, so I only went with half an oz and used sugar. I’d say if using something 40 proof, go for the full oz and skip the extra sweetener.

I also tried this with both umeboshi and Chinese pickled plums. Both are just as good, but you’ll definitely need to use less of the latter as they are larger.

I love cocktails large enough to fill up a pint glass. Obviously, I do love coupe-sized quaff, but they just go down too fast during the summer. And now that summer has arrived, I’ll definitely be coming up some new ones.
