Every time I serve an up-style cocktail, it’s flat surface reveals the disquieting slope of my window seat. I have tried photographing cocktails like this on a wooden coaster with a bit of balancing material underneath, but that the coaster isn’t resting flush is just as noticeable. The window seat has been slanted as long as I’ve lived here, and our neighbor’s is so bad that it’s visible from the street (and the landlord as built up a level sitting surface above the window seat frame). Last year I ran across a community photo of our street from 1960, and, surprise, the neighbor’s window was slanted even then!
This cocktail comes from The Educated Barfly and is called the Tea Tree Sour. The original is made with cognac, but since I don’t usually stock cognac, I went tried this out with both bourbon and Jamaican rum, since I know the latter goes so well with Menta. These were both excellent, but I prefer the bourbon version just a bit more. And alas, I have finally finished my first first bottle of Fernet Branca Menta. Would buy again.
